Creating designs for the Venus shoes:

Picture

About this project: For my personal project I came up with creative designs for the Venus shoes, which later I painted them on this popular shoes. This project wasn’t easy, I had to dedicate and commit myself to it for making it through the project with excellent results. The first step was coming up with the designs, for this step all I needed was paper, a pencil and coloring pencils. Every time I felt inspired I took a pencil grabbed a chair and drew for hours. Once I felt happy with my designs, the next step was painting them.  For the painting process of my designs, I used white Venus shoes, textile paint, textile markers and a small, medium and large brush depending on the design. This step wasn’t easy at all, I had to get used to the type of paint and learn how to control it and the brush. My goal was to come up with three different designs and applying the design and production process the owner company of the Venus shoes uses on my project; under the resources I had available. My other goal was to turn the boring Venus shoes all teenagers are wearing today, which come in simple and monotone colors, into fun and creative shoes teenagers would feel identified with and attracted to.

Reflection:
Given the importance and responsibility the project represents, I had to take it seriously and work hard on it. It was difficult finding time between school and other responsibilities to work on the project because doing so meant giving up some of my short free time; at the end doing this brought good results and satisfactions. When working on the project my artistic gift was supposed to come out to light but didn’t do so. I had to work very hard on painting the shoes because of some of the complex designs I came up with, in order to do so I made many mistakes and had to start over again. Art is practice and passion; this is what I learned during my project that for being and artist you don’t necessarily need to be gifted all you need is passion and practice. Even though my shoes didn’t end up looking as designer shoes, I am proud of my results because for being my first time designing and painting shoes and for having done it with all my heart they look awesome. Other challenge was learning to be less demanding with myself; the project was hand made so the results weren’t going to look as factory-produced shoes. During the project my creative abilities appeared and made me feel confident with myself, they helped me come up with the designs. Though it was a challenging project I had fun doing it and the results were great!

                                                                                                            Practice Grid Drawing:

Picture

About this project:
One of this year’s art projects was a practice grid drawing. This is one of the projects I enjoyed doing the most. It consisted in choosing a magazine picture from whomever we liked, gluing it into our sketchbook, measuring it and with a pencil gridding it. After having the “squared” picture, we had to draw a bigger square next to it and also grid it into the same number of squares as the original picture. Once ready, we numbered the squares of both and began drawing the picture in the new enlarged grid. The numbers guided us and helped us be precise and draw each part of the face in the exact place it belonged to in our new drawing. The goal for this project was to practice grid drawing, which is a method used to help people achieve good drawing proportions, for a bigger grid-drawing project we did next in a canvas and with paint. With the project we had to learn how to be accurate when drawing the grid on the magazine picture, when drawing the enlarged grid and when transferring the picture to the large grid. We were expected to use excellent craftsmanship when drawing.

Reflection:
After finishing my practice grid drawing I felt happy and satisfied with my results. Again in this project I could feel my love for art, this doesn’t mean I am a great artist. The truth is I am an average artist but I love painting, drawing and doing art in general. My perseverance came out to light because even though some parts of the drawing weren’t right, I erased them with patience and tried again until I made it. One of my weaknesses is being slow. For making things right and feeling satisfied with my work I have to take my time and do things slowly and consciously, which isn’t right because in life I won’t have plenty of time for everything. The time we had wasn’t enough for me so I had to take it home and work on it; I realized I have to work faster because doing so doesn’t mean rushing as long as its done carefully. Other weakness was drawing hair, Scarlett Johansson has great hear but it isn’t great drawing it, it is extremely hard but I kept on trying until achieving a pretty good hair drawing. In conclusion this project was awesome, I learned a lot from it.
